But… what is Mate?
Good question! It's an ancient South American infusion made from yerba mate (mate herb in French), full of nutritional qualities and with numerous virtues. If you'd like to know more, we talk about it in depth on our blog!
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to drink my Mate from a gourd?
Not at all! Some people put it in a tea ball or a teapot, for example. However, the calabash allows you to experience the true Maté experience. It allows you to put a larger quantity of Maté in, to benefit from the stimulating effects of Maté, and to reinfuse it throughout the day!
How is your Mate dried?
As required by the European Union, our Maté is air-dried using an indirect heat source. It is then aged for 24 months, until its bitterness disappears!
How many times can I brew my Mate?
Whereas after 2 infusions tea will generally lose all its flavor (especially industrial teas with artificial flavors), Maté re-infuses very well. If you only wet a part of the leaves during your first infusion, you ensure the flavor for the whole day!
Can I drink my Mate in the evening?
So yes... but it's worth remembering that Mate has stimulating effects, and can prevent some people from sleeping if drunk late in the day. We recommend drinking it in the morning, for a day full of energy. So save it for party nights!
Are there any contraindications to consuming Mate?
Maté consumption may not be recommended for certain people. Pregnant women, people suffering from heart failure, insomnia, or kidney problems, to name a few. If you have any doubts, we advise you to consult a doctor. It's wiser 😘
